About Us
The Georgia Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association (GLHIGA) was established by the Georgia Legislature in 1981 to help protect policyholders when a life or health insurance company becomes insolvent. Membership in the Association is required for all insurers licensed to sell life insurance, health insurance, and annuity products in Georgia.
If a member insurance company is declared insolvent and ordered into liquidation by a court, GLHIGA helps provide continued coverage and protection to eligible Georgia residents, subject to the limits established under Georgia law. During this process, a court-appointed receiver manages the insurer’s assets and liabilities. At the same time, the Association works to ensure that covered policyholders continue to receive the benefits and protections available to them.
The Association’s protections are governed by the Georgia Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association Act and the terms of the insurance policy in effect at the time of insolvency. Coverage and benefit limits vary based on the type of policy and applicable state law.
We strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information. However, if any information on this website differs from the Georgia Guaranty Association Act or other applicable laws and regulations, the law will control. Because insurance policies and legal requirements can vary, the Association cannot determine coverage for specific policies unless it has been activated to assist policyholders of an insolvent member insurer.
